Impacts of Social Media for Young Generations


    Social media is an online media in which the users can easily participate, share, and create the content of blog, social networking, and the virtual world. Blog and social networking is the form of social media that mostly used by the community around the world. In today's world, all of us are experiencing this thing that social media is developing day by day. Most of the people around the world are using social media. This is very popular among the young generation especially. Social media is continuing to gain popularity every day. The effects of Social Media on youth is also quite evident in different frames of our lives.


    Therefore, social networking sites have resulted in both positive and negative impacts. The positive impacts of social networks are young generations can use social media for educational purpose and get plenty of useful information, we are able to make a wider friendships, able to increase our creativity, able to share many information, able to express ourself by utilizing social media to spread social awareness and kindness, able to deliver our hobby such as writing, to make promotion, and able to avoid stress. Also, social media can be a great source of income for many young people. For example, some can earn money by creating their own channels on YouTube.

    The negative impact of social networks for teens and children are the social networking sites they have. They will feel addicted and do not care about time, do not care about the surroundings, lack of socialization with the environment, waste of money and credit, prone to dispute or misunderstanding, often social media can be a place that the fraud can be occured, and social media can damage the health of the eye of children or people who use them. In conclusion, social networking does have many benefits, but it can not be denied that social networks also have a wide range of hazards. That’s why young generations should use social media wisely.

The Trisakti Shootings The Trisakti shootings happened on 12 may 1998, the tragedy took place at Trisakti University, Jakarta, Indonesia. The demonstration demanding President Suharto's retirement because of the suffered of Indonesian economy in 1997 and 1998 due to the Asian financial crisis. By 1998, hundreds of students from universities across the country were demonstrating and calling for President Suharto's retirement. On 9 May 1998, a police officer, Dadang Rusmana, was reported that he have been killed at a demonstration at Djuanda University.  On 12 may 1998 Four students, Elang Mulia Lesmana, Heri Hertanto, Hafidin Royan, and Hendriawan Sie were killed and many more were injured. Gun shots were heard and screaming followed. Tear gas was everywhere.
